Trail Description

Cornucopia remains a gold mine of snowmobile access in the southern Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. With thousands of acres of rideable terrain outside the wilderness and magnificent views, this area is the premier destination for snowmobiling in the region.

The once thriving mining town of Cornucopia is now a ghost town except for the Cornucopia Lodge, which operates packages catering to snowmobilers in the winter. It is also a good sledding access point as an alternative to the Clear Creek Snopark by parking at the end of the road in Carson. The road to Cornucopia is not maintained for winter automobile travel, but it is groomed. The Wallowa Alpine Huts operates ski guiding with this route up to the Norway Basin Yurt. See the EnterActive map for all the details on how to access Cornucopia and the high country.

Waypoints

Table Top — Table Top Mountain can be difficult with drifts and exposure on both sides. Cornices usually overhang the east side, which is known to avalanche.

Carson Parking — No snopark permit required. There is not an official parking lot, but the roadside is very wide and the intersection of roads allows for easy turning of a trailer. During high use times this may get problematic.
