Built by the motorcycle enthusiasts, the trail makes a forceful run down the ridge. The visuals, flow, and technical riding are especially spectacular on the lower half of the trail. I would rate it as the signature trail of MERA, best taken with North Knob first and ridden as a downhill ride toward Fox Hill parking. The final stretches will leave you in awe, especially if the springtime flowers are popping on the open hillside as you descend upon La Grande. On the way down you will be able to see wide expanses of the Blue Mountains, the Elkhorns in the distance and the Wallowas across the valley.
For several years, the singletrack of Upper Fenceline did not connect with Lower Fenceline. There was also a section of trail that had to be abandoned because of a phantom peregrine siting on the cliffs below the trail. Finally in 2020, the middle connection was finalized to make one long continuous trail excursion.
