Hidden in the woods on the north side of Ruby Peak is the closest thing to a DH bike trail I've ridden in Northeast Oregon. I got a tip about "a motor bike trail that people mountain bike on Ruby Peak" by an unknowing skier I met a few years ago. The locals were coy with me on exactly where this secret trail was so I sniffed it out myself. It contains full-committal jumps, drops, rocks, and lose swooping berm turns. It is short but oh so sweet and delivers you back to the road so you can climb up and session it again or the other trails the drop down beside it. It is well-maintained and these are the only correctly built bike berms and jumps I have seen in the entire region.
The trail can be shuttled too but the road is pretty rough so riding up is probably better. You climb up Lime Quarry Rd. The quarry itself has much room for parking or primitive camping, and features a waterfall. To get there you will have to drive by several "No Trespassing" and "Beware of Dog" signs where it looks like the road is ending. Disregard these notices except for the dog ones, if you are riding your bike. Once you get past the last house you are on and off some public land and the road gets gradually worse. Decide your strategy from there on where to park. It is the Ruby Peak cyclocross climb route that you follow to the quarry and beyond. This is a good steady climb with a mountain bike.
To find the trail, ride past the quarry on the main looking road and climb until it hairpins to the right, but look for an old road and trail to continue left (start of the track here). Take that trail to the left and follow a very primitive motorbike trail for a short ways until it connects to a more established motorcycle trail. Ride downhill. Eventually you come to a trail entrance flanked by old bike tubes and tires.
