Trail Description

Better known as PJ, this is the best road bike ride in Union County even with it being an out and back. It is a series of difficult shortish climbs to the end of the pavement north of Elgin. With very little traffic and nice scenery, it is the go-to add-on for long training rides from La Grande. The first challenge is Moore Hill followed by rolling terrain all the way out. Then, coming back you'll be surprised how difficult the hill was you descended. This is known as Millionaire, or what the real old-timers called Hard Luck Hill, because that is where your vehicle stalled on the snow and ice trying to make it into town.

You can actually find more pavement if you ride down the gravel to the fish hatchery at the Lookingglass or you can make a gravel loop of it on Robinson/Moses Creek. These options rarely happen because of the quality of the out-and-back experience at PJ.
