Walton Lake is one of the most popular, higher mountain destinations east of Bend and Prineville. The lake sits at ~5100 ft. and offers various activities for all. The Walton Lake Trail #809 makes almost a mile loop around the lake with little elevation gain or loss. The trail is paved near the fishing dock, but the rest is compacted dirt and gravel.
You can access the trail anywhere along the 0.97 mile loop. There is an official trailhead (Walton Lake Trailhead) that starts along USFS Road 22 just outside the campground. If you're looking for mountain biking, the Round Mountain Trail #805 starts on the eastern edge of the lake, and extends approximately 7.5 miles out.
Swimming, canoeing, paddleboarding, and small boats are all doable in the lake. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and catfish for those seeking to do that. The campground sits along the shores of the lake and is managed by concessionaire, Aud & Di Campground Services of Utah, and is subject to normal Forest Service fees on a national forest.
