A fun short loop in the deep woods near the beach.
There is a nice firm surface on this trail that provides some good ripping through the tall trees on the Oregon coast. Although there are a few roots, there are smooth lines through any difficult looking sections if you hit them right. The loop shown here is counter clockwise but it is fun either direction. The trail is particularly clean under the thick tree canopy, with a few ferns spotting the trail-side but the visibility is really good on all the tight turns, giving it a unique feel. There is a view of the lake, some camping spots, and an outhouse when arriving at the lake. Expect to see some hikers but otherwise it's a fun loop. The climb up to the loop has gravel and annoying wooden water bars on the trail but once you get to the loop you may have weeded out the feeble hikers and you can go full gas around the loop.
Get to it south of Florence off the east side of 101 where you will see signs for the Siltcoos Lake Trail, not to be confused with the turnoff for the Siltcoos Beaches on the opposite side of the road. The trailhead is immediately there when turning in and has a few parking spots and vaulted toilet. A Forest Pass is required at the trailhead and there isn't much room for parking of trailers or big vehicles.
