A side trip over to a scenic lake with a very steep descent/ascent below the lake. At one point you are right along a cascade of the creek from Miner Lake. This is a loop accessible from the Prairie Lake Trail. On that trail 2.2 miles up there is a junction where you cross the creek and begin the steep ascent. If you are doing a hike or trail run and wanting to make a loop to Prairie Lakes then I recommend doing it this direction. If you are on a bike, you want to come down this way. The part of the trail the traverses between Miner Lake and Prairie Lakes is not well maintained. Overall it is a rugged trail not for beginners, but a bit more picturesque and raw compared to the Prairie Lake Trail.
